The Swedish Federation of Unemployment Insurance Funds "SO" represents the interests of Sweden's unemployment insurance funds and their approximately 3 million members.
SO is the only organization in the labour market that, under the same roof, unites organizations connected both to wage-earner groups and to various associations of self-employees.
The task of SO is to function as the organization serving the interests of, and providing services to, Sweden's 32 unemployment insurance funds. For example, SO represents the unemployment insurance funds when joint action is needed, for example, in presenting propositions to government agencies and other organizations.
Within SO, the unemployment insurance funds work together to promote application of the rules of unemployment insurance in a uniform way.
Another of SO's tasks is to develop administrative routines common to all unemployment insurance funds, for example involving new computer systems.
Other important functions of the organization include offering education and/or training to the staff of the unemployment insurance funds and providing information to organizations, government agencies and the public about the unemployment insurance and the work of the unemployment insurance funds.
National and International Co-operation
SO co-operates with the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen) and with the Swedish Unemployment Insurance Board (IAF) in questions of principal importance to unemployment insurance. SO and IAF also co-operate within the area of the EU/EEA.
In addition to taking part in frequent exchanges of knowledge concerning unemployment insurance with sister organizations in Scandinavia, SO is also represented internationally through membership of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
